
About Us
The SAN PEDRO YOUTH COALITION (SPYC) was formed in 1988 to promote and support positive activities for the youth of San Pedro. This initiative was born out of a recognition of the need to create and maintain a supportive and nurturing environment for the young people of our community. Over the years, SPYC has helped to shape the futures of countless youth through a variety of programs and activities.
The organization is operated by a board of directors consisting of community and school leaders. Board members live and/or work in the San Pedro area and are dedicated to supporting and fostering positive activities for the youth of San Pedro. Their leadership and vision guide the organization, ensuring that our programs meet the highest standards and address the evolving needs of our community.

Scott Lane
President
As President of the San Pedro Youth Coalition for over twenty years, Scott Lane has played a key leadership role in the organization's activities and advocacy on behalf of youth programs. Scott also leads the Next Generation Parish initiative at Holy Trinity Church and serves as a passionate volunteer coach for the Holy Trinity School flag football team, where his leadership extends beyond the field, instilling teamwork, discipline, and a strong sense of community in his young athletes.
Scott is an attorney at Lane & McGowan, LLP, where he specializes in construction industry disputes and complex litigation. Beyond his professional accomplishments, Scott is deeply committed to the preservation and enhancement of youth recreational programs in San Pedro.
Scott lives in San Pedro with his wife and three children.

Lou Mardesich
Vice President
Lou Mardesich is the current Director of the San Pedro Community of Schools, where he continues his lifelong dedication to education and community growth. After earning a Master’s in Educational Administration, Lou spent 15 years as principal at both Barton Hill Elementary and Harry Bridges Elementary in the Harbor Area, focusing on fostering educational excellence and creating strong ties within the community.
An active volunteer for over a decade, Lou has been a committed member of the San Pedro Youth Coalition and has contributed to numerous local initiatives. In 2022, he co-founded the San Pedro Education Foundation alongside Ricky Magana, a nonprofit organization that champions the enhancement and advocacy of San Pedro’s public schools.
His leadership in both education and community service continue to support the growth and development of the region’s youth. Lou was honored with the Future Leader of San Pedro Award in 1989.

Mike McLachlan
Treasurer
A lifelong resident of San Pedro, Mike McLachlan has been an active volunteer in the community for many years - coaching basketball, baseball, and soccer as well as serving on the board at Bogdanovich Park for several years. He also serves as a greeter at Holy Trinity Church. His commitment to local youth sports has been a cornerstone of his involvement in the community.
With a background in finance, marketing, and sales, Mike brings a wealth of expertise to his role as Treasurer of the organization.
In his free time, Mike enjoys working on his golf game as a member of the Los Verdes Men’s Club and following his son’s collegiate hockey career with great pride.
Mike is eager to contribute to the continued success and growth of the San Pedro Youth Coalition, fostering opportunities for young people in the community.

Mary McLachlan
Secretary
As the daughter of one of the founding members, Mary (Bobich) McLachlan has observed her parents’ dedication to the growth and development of the San Pedro Youth Coalition. To continue their legacy, Mary has stepped up to carry on their important work. She is the chair for our flagship event, the Future Leaders of San Pedro.
Mary has always volunteered in the San Pedro community - most notably leading the San Pedro Relay for Life for the past 15 years and volunteering at local schools and churches, dedicating most of her life to supporting education and youth activities. Mary and her husband, Mike, are proud parents of a student-athlete son who is currently playing collegiate hockey. Together, they are firm believers in the value of athletics, teamwork, education, and service in shaping young lives.

Mike Lansing
Senior Director
As a founding member of the San Pedro Youth Coalition, Mike Lansing played a pivotal role in shaping the organization’s early years, serving as President for its first 10 years. His leadership and dedication helped establish the Coalition as a cornerstone of youth development in the community.
A longtime teacher and coach, Mike recently retired after an impactful 30-year career as the Executive Director of the Boys & Girls Clubs of the Los Angeles Harbor. Throughout his career, he demonstrated a deep commitment to the growth and well-being of young people in San Pedro.
Mike’s extensive experience in education, coaching, and nonprofit leadership continues to inspire and influence the work of this organization.

Ray Vaudo
Senior Director
A resident of San Pedro for over 60 years, Ray Vaudo has deep roots in the community, having attended local public schools. Ray became involved with the San Pedro Youth Coalition in 1991 at the encouragement of Mel Bobich, one of the organization’s co-founders. Over the years, Ray served as President and played a key role in supporting and implementing several initiatives that benefitted local youth.
Professionally, Ray had a distinguished government career, ultimately rising to the position of National Training Director for a large Federal agency. Following his retirement from full-time employment, Ray continued his career in business development, training consulting, and writing as an author.
Ray’s decades of experience in leadership, training, and community service continue to inspire his work with the San Pedro Youth Coalition, where he remains committed to fostering opportunities for youth and strengthening the community.

Mary Arzuman
Member at Large
Mary Arzuman has been a driving force behind the San Pedro Relay for Life for nearly 20 years, demonstrating exceptional leadership and compassion. As one of eight children, Mary values family and community, which she passes on as wife and mother of three daughters and grandmother to two grandsons. Her commitment to making a difference extends to her work with the San Pedro Youth Coalition, where she actively volunteers to help empower local youth.
In addition to her work with Relay for Life and the Youth Coalition, Mary volunteers at Holy Trinity Church. Her dedication to service, especially in helping the next generation, reflects her deep commitment to the San Pedro community.

Robert Bobich
Member at Large
Born and raised in San Pedro as the youngest of seven children, Robert Bobich has dedicated much of his life to serving his community. A recipient of the "Circle of Excellence" award from Green Hills Memorial Park, Robert’s passion for supporting local families extends through his role as Advanced Planning Director at Green Hills, where he helps guide families through important planning decisions.
In addition to his professional work, Robert has been an active coach for several local sports teams, sharing his love for athletics with the youth of San Pedro. As a father of four, Robert values family and community deeply, and his commitment to both his career and volunteer efforts reflects his ongoing dedication to supporting the youth and families of San Pedro.

Sharon Frazier
Member at Large
Sharon Frazier is a long-time resident of San Pedro and a dedicated teacher and coach for LAUSD at San Pedro High School. A graduate of California State University Northridge, where she was an All-American Swimmer, Sharon’s passion for swimming has shaped her career. She was awarded Coach of the Year for the State of California in 2021-2022 after leading the San Pedro High School Pirate Boys Swim Team to a first-place victory in the CIF City Section.
In addition to her coaching, Sharon has a long history of community involvement. She volunteered as a swim coach at Peck Park Pool and Hey Rookie Pool for eight years, and served as a Cub Scout Den Leader, activities coordinator, and Merit Badge Counselor for the local Boy Scout Troop for nine years. A wife and mother of two sons—one of whom received the Future Leaders of San Pedro Award—Sharon’s philosophy is to pay kindness and opportunity forward, shaping the lives of young people in her community.
